YCGL - Tuesday - November 29, 2022 - Now That's What I'm Talking About

So, today was yesterday's mañana, meaning I can neglect what happened yesterday and go on with today.   The Cove and the Pool at the El Presidente The Scuba Du Dive Shop Highly recommended. And I'm glad I did!  Waking up before sunrise means I can see the morning break as I break-fast.  Which also means we can watch the buzz of activities loading the boats that come in to take out the divers for the day!.  As I walked up to the boat, I was treated like royalty.  "May I take your bag?" "Here, grab my hand!"  "Please watch your step on the step!"  "Sit here, so you don't have to step up the step!"  It's almost funny until your divemaster/instructor tells you that he had great remorse all last night and that this is the worst accident he has had to take care of in 35 years of diving.  But soon, we are talking away like old friends laughing and joking.  He seems somewhat reassured when I tell him that we do many crazy/stupid things i

I think A Tale of Two Cities starts out "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."  But we'll get to that later.   I met at the dock at 7:45 as scheduled.  I had gotten up especially early (for me), at 6:30, wrangled up my gear and headed off to breakfast.  You know, a person could get tired of eating that buffet breakfast, and I would love to try to, but it is still fun after two days.  Back when we first started going here in 1984/5, there was one cook who specialized in omelets and another who specialized in waffles.  This was back in the day before a rotating waffle iron was available in every Motel 6 in the country, and it was fun to watch him ladle out the batter, close the lid, flip the iron and wait the near eternity for the waffle to cook.  And then, out it came, crisp, hot, ready for the butter and syrup to slather over it.... Now they just have the waffles cut up and in a covered dish, no longer crisp.  On the other hand, in addition to the syrup,

What a Great Day!   Breakfast at El Presidente is always a treat.  It is a long buffet line of Mexican food, omelets, waffles and fruit.  (yes, I even ate some fruit!)  Eating breakfast is a feast for the eyes and the pallette!  Interestingly, the guy outside holding what looks to be a microphone is actually a hawk and you see his jesses.  We speculated about why he was here, until we saw a bird trying to fly into the building.  The bird saw the hawk and hightailed it right out.  The hawk is pest control!  And very effective.       Last night, after dinner, we were walking around downtown and stopped in a dive shop.  (There seem to be dive shops on every other corner here.  You'd almost think it was the backbone of their economy, which it is!)  The reef system here is one of the most famous in the world, and is designated as a National Park.  In order to protect it, they have banned suntan lotion because it has been shown to damage the reef over time.  (Almost as much as having gri

YCGL - Saturday, November 26, 2022 - Laramie Got a New Swimming Pool!

Big News!  Laramie got a new pool.  Of course, it's a little outside of town, about 1806 miles, and it's salt water, I guess so it can be a lower temperature before it freezes.  But, here I am, at Laramie South, also known as known as Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico!   I bet you think there is a back story to me being in Cozumel, just like in the old days, in the 1980s and 90s when we came here once or twice a year.  So, here goes... On Thursday, I talked about being invited to Steve's for Thanksgiving.  About as I walked in the front door, Steve asked if I wanted to go to Cozumel.  Well, yes, but what are you talking about.  Steve and Arthur were flying down to Cozumel for a week and were staying at the El Presidente and going scuba diving for three of those days.  His room was right on the beach, looking out into the sunset.  He worked on persuading me for about 10-15 minutes, I checked my calendar, and it was clear for the next week.  And then said that I could stop in Hou

Arthur, Steve and I Hi All,  It's been a while since I've gotten on last, I needed a break from traveling and wanted to stay home for a while.  I also had the normal catching up with mail and honey-do's needed to get done.  And basketball!  And volleyball! Basketball season has started with both the men's and women's teams starting.  I still have the same seats for the men's games as we've had for the last eight or so years, since the Arena-Auditorium was remodeled.   They are about 25-30 feet above the court and right in line with the west side backboard, so I can watch if the shots from the sidelines are on target.  Always fun.  The seat for the women's games is three rows behind the women's bench and right behind Joe and Mary's seats.  So I get to clap and shout encouragement for the girls.  This seat is also in line with the east backboard so I can see the shots almost from the players' perspective.  I think I've been to eight or nine
