YCGL - Thursday, April 3, 2025 and Day 1 - Of the Trip, In Prague

In rereading, I've noticed that I may have been a little verbose.  I've had a lot of sitting time and I feel, a lot to talk about, at least for now.

And I'm so dogged tired, I'm falling asleep while I'm typing.  I'm calling this Day 1 because that's what Viking is calling it.

Heathrow Airport in London is huge,  no surprises there.  I had taken the shuttle bus from Terminal 5, the big international terminal to Terminal 3. the big regional terminal.  This was about 10:00.  The flight wasn't until 14:00, or 2:00.  I located one of the flight boards, and it indicated that it would announce the gate at 13:15.  That was 45 minutes before flight time.  It did give me time catch up on the blog while trying to recharge some batteries, and have lunch.  I ate at a kind of fancy Sushi place.  I had a Korean Barbeque Chicken over rice, which was surprisingly good, comfortably hot and very filling.

I was at the flight board at 1:15 and watched Gate 42 come up.  I finally found signs indicating the directions to the gate.  I finally got there at 1:30 after a full chuff to get there.  You would think that a company as big as British Airways would be able to predict the gate better than that.

But, the fact is, I'm here in Prague.  It took about an hour to drive from the airport to our hotel because of 5:30 traffic, but we did get here about 6:30.  One of the six of us had a tour when we got here.  I hope she enjoys it.  I know I wouldn't.  Here is looking out my window.

The Prague Hilton is located about two kilometers (1.25 miles) west of the old town and I am facing north of there.  I think the people on the east end of the building can see more that direction.  I'm just happy to have a direction to look in.

And a bed to sleep in, and that's where I'm headed tonight.

Good night and Good luck.  (Edward R. Murrow)

  1. So glad you are safely there. I was confused as to which trip you were taking. I thought you were doing some kind of solo trip in Germany. Prague is my brother's most favorite cities. Loraine

    1. Erik called last night and I was telling him how much I liked Prague and could spend a week here. He said it was one of his favorite cities also. Factiod, I told him I went to the opera there, and he said, "Yeah, and I took Stephanie there also." Stephanie was his undergraduate girl friend. I knew her dad and grandfather from engineering, and Stephanie was a sweetheart. She eventually married a German architect and when they are in Laramie (where her mom still lives), they always came by the house for a couple of hours. I didn't know that she and Erik had traveled to Prague together. That must have been in the 2008-2010 time frame. :)
