YCGL - February 27, 2024 - Yes, I did get lost....And Found... And Going Home

Image
I'm sorry.   I haven't been able to keep up with my diary.  For a variety of reasons.  Not because I haven't been thinking about it.  And maybe guilty that I got so far behind that I didn't have time to catch up.  Well, I can always catch up, and plan to.  In the end, I took a lot of underwater photos 95% of which aren't worthy of reproduction, but some are.  And some video editing of a great afternoon tubing in ???  some island somewhere that I'll look up when I get back home.   And sleep.  I've slept a lot, a whole lot, a ton, like over 10 hours last night.  And I realized that maybe I'm not tired, but exhausted.  I think I hit the nail on the head (and the wall) early on.... Too Much, Too Fast, Too Soon.  I think I'm still recovering from my kidney stone, which I still haven't passed.  Much smaller, I'm not afraid of it, I've got my pills in the backpack, so they aren't far away if something happens on the flight back.  But I was

YCGL - Friday, February 16, 2024 - A Beach Tour of Sint Maarten and Saint Martin

Since I didn't have the e-bike, I booked a tour of the beaches of the island. (Hi, today is actually Saturday, Feb 17, 2024 (oops!  An errant finger typed the 19th by mistake, although my calendar on my phone just told me Today IS the 19th and I have to take out both the garbage and the recycling tonight, which I won't because I'm not home to roll them to the street, so there!), and I'm on board the ship.  Like the Princess cruise last fall, I only have one line to share between my phone (which has most of my pictures) and my computer, which has the blog to be uploaded.  I'll do the best I can.)   And I fell asleep.  So now its Sunday. There was a mixup with the tour pickup location.  I had my hotel, Alicia's Inn, for the pickup point and the dispatcher didn't read that, so the driver waited at the cruise port for 40 minutes before someone figured out that I wasn't there and called me.  Simanie was there in 10 minutes and we were off.   OK, this has got

YCGL - Thursday, February 15, 2024 - Too Much, Too Soon

The island is 39 square miles, approximately 6.5 miles square.  I don't like renting cars to get around, especially my first time somewhere.  I don't do motorcycles or motorbikes, I might try ATV's in this case, but I saw that there is an e-bike shop right off the cruise port.  I contacted him and he gave me a great price for a two-day rental back in December.  However, since then, I've had the kidney stone, which took a lot out of me, and then, when I got to the island, I saw the traffic, the roads, and the mountains, and frankly, the e-bike didn't sound as good as when I rented it.  But I liked the owner, a 63-year-old Canadian who moved here last year after visiting many times and was really laid back.  We talked for a while, he had had a kidney stone also and sympathized, and agreed it I felt uncomfortable after the first day, we'd just call it good.   We got the bike adjusted and I rode it for a test drive and felt good about being on the bike again.  I ask

YCGL - February 14, 2024 - A New Year, A New Trip, and An Auspicious Beginning

Image
Hey Blog Fans!  It's been a while, and it's a new Year, and time for a new trip.  In fact, I'm at 3-1/2 new trips.  But we'll start at the beginning.   It's February in Laramie (as I guess it is most everywhere else), and although it hasn't been a horrendously awful winter so far, still, it seems like a good time to get out of town and get warm.  And what better way to do it than a Caribbean cruise.  But this one is a little different than my other cruises because I'm not going on Princess.  I decided to go small this time, so I'm taking a Windstar cruise, the Classic Caribbean , seven days from St. Maarten in the Dutch Antilles to St. Lucia and back.  And I'm adding a few days on both sides, so I'll be gone two weeks.   I set the flights up so that I would arrive and depart in St. Maarten at convenient times (3:00 and 5:00, respectively) which means that they are terrible times in Denver and worse in Laramie.  My flight down departs Denver at 1
