YCGL - May 14, 2023 - Short, short and shorter....

Image
Hi All! This is going to be really quick, but I'll have more time tomorrow.  If I can get a connection. It's travel time.  The trailer is hooked up to the pickup, I've got a little more loading to do in the morning (Thursday the 15th)  and I'm taking off as quickly as possible.   I'm just going out for two nights, Thursday and Friday, then I'm coming back for Saturday, wrapping some stuff up that had to wait, and then I'm heading off again on Sunday after church.   The first is just a quick loop around Scottsbluff, Nebraska at two Harvest Hosts.  Really, the reason for this trip is to just make sure everything is working and I have all my necessities.  Pete and Carol pull their motorhome out of storage and spend a night in a KOA campground right across from their subdivision so they can assess what they need to have before they take off.  Same idea here. Then back home, collect supplies and take off on Sunday for parts east.  ...

YCGL - May 12, 2023 - How Can It Be June??? - Draft

I kind of remember there was a May once, a long time ago, but the calander says two weeks.  Wow.   We held the Wojahn/Edgar birthday party Saturday, May 27th in Golden, CO where Jere used to live.  Appropriate, one month after Sally's 73rd birthday.  I thought the party was at 3:00, which worked fine.   I left a little after 10:00, stopped at the RV dealership in Cheyenne and found out that a family had put the money down on the motorhome.  They were to close on May 10th.  I stopped and had lunch at 12:00.   I wanted to visit a friend at Anshultz Medical Center in Denver.  She had been in the Burn unit for over 6 weeks and had been transferred to the physical therapy unit.  I got Anshutz and found her room about 2:00.  That gave me about half an hour I could spend there before leaving for the party.  Janet has been a friend of ours for a "longggg timmmmmeee", she explained to the orderly when I arrived....

YCGL - Thursday, May 25, 2023 - So much....Fast Forward to Tuesday the 29th.

The theme of the Babies Shower was Winnie the Pooh.   Juhl made a  "Hundred Aker Wood" sign for the front yard. Because he's like that! I tried this entire weekend to post and couldn't.  We had a family get together in Fort Collins and Erik and Liz were here from Friday, May 19th  to Monday, May 22nd.  And I left both laptops at home.  I started four times on my phone and each time I got about four lines completed and something popped up on my screen.  As soon as the blog writer isn't the top screen, it erases everything that is on it.  I've got to come up with a better solution for when I have to use my phone.   We originally had three events planned for the weekend.  Jere's son Robert and his wife Liz Porter (they are going by Liz's maiden name) are having twins on July 11th.  Saturday was the family babies shower.  Sunday was originally planned to be the Spring Family Birthday party, but it was decided it was going...

YCGL - May 1 - 18, Running hard to fall behind

Image
I decided that I would stop at April and start again in May because I'm so far behind and it didn't make sense to make the last one longer.  So here goes. Selling the motorhome:  I talked about happy and sad in the last blog.  This was one of them.  I took the motorhome out on several outings in the fall of 2021 after Sally died.  Then in the spring of 2022, I took two long trips to Las Vegas and Phoenix  and to Minnesota, pulling the car behind on all of them.  And two things struck me, one, It was too big for one person, and two, while it was comfortable to be in it, it really felt lonesome without Sally in it.  And maybe also, after nine years of ownership, I was ready for a change.  So I bought the RAM truck and the Outdoors RV 21RBS (made in La Grange, OR!) last July.  I didn't want to do a trade-in at that time, primarily because there were a few repairs to be made.  However, I couldn't find anyone in Laramie to do the ...

YCGL - Wednesday, May 3, 2023 - Back and Forth, Like Life, through April

Image
The past weeks have been busy and filled with the happy and sad of life.  Its been two weeks since I checked in last and that was longer than I wanted to go, so let's dig in to it. Saturday, April 22 is a good starting point.  That night was the ARK Regional Services Banquet and Casino night.  ARK is an incredible organization that works with people with intellectual disabilities and acquired brain injuries.  We've had several friends who have been clients there and the services they provide are unbelievable.  They say they "have been facilitating opportunities for people to Live, Learn, Work and Play in Wyoming since 1963."  Two ARK residences were built on our block and a block north soon after we built our house in 1981 and clients walk back and forth between the houses with their supervisors all the time.  The banquet is one of their major fund raisers with live and silent auctions and (obviously) a casino night.   Actually, it started be...

YCGL - Saturday, April 15, 2023 - Catching Up Since the Las Vegas Trip

Image
Just so you know, this was my first attempts and the later ones looked a lot better. Wow!  It's been a while since I've talked to you last and there's a lot to catch up on.   I got home from Vegas on Saturday, March 18 late.  I got to church and spent the day emptying and cleaning the trailer and doing laundry.  I had my Aggregate workshop that Monday-Wednesday and continued working on the trailer and truck and the house.  And my Chevy Sonic has been sitting at the dealership for two months now and no word on when the missing part may come in.    Tuesday night, the Cowgirls played in the second round of the NIT Tournament and I had invited a Joe and Joe Jr, over for pizza, and Joe invited another friend of ours also.  The only problem was that the game started at 5:00 and I had a Aggregate Review Session at 6:30.  Sadly, the women must have hit the wall by then and didn't play well at all against a revved up Kansas State team.  I mi...

YCGL - Saturday, March 18, 2023 - Laramie - Heee'sss Backkkkkk!

And I'm pretty happy about it.   Really, other than the lack of internet access (some of which I knew wouldn't be there) it was a very successful trip.  Just under 2,000 miles, nothing happened that I couldn't account for, or won't be able to account for, I think.  Certainly nothing major.   ______________ I wrote this on Saturday when I got back, and the side notes say it was published then.  But I don't see it on the blog itself.  Also, Loraine wrote that she was glad I was back, which I thought meant she had read it in the blog, but she had sent me a long text about her family being together and Bob celebrating his 75th birthday when I was about 200 miles away to which I responded back.   And this week has been my Aggregate Workshop and the Cowgirls playing in the WNIT.  And getting back from the trip and sleeping a lot.   So, not a lot to report, but need to catch up a lot. I'll be doing updates for a while.  FYI,...

YCGL - Thursday-Friday, March 16-17, 2023 - Tse’Bii’Ndzisgaii - Monumenta Vallis - Monument Valley - Final

Image
After looking at all the Roman, Greek, Hindu and Norse Temples and Shrines in the Grand Canyon, a little Navajo, Latin and English for Monument Valley just seemed appropriate. Yesterday, it rained most of the day and drizzled into the night.  I started the morning by just taking some pictures around the KOA campground and it was clear as could be and no evidence of water on the ground.  This is harsh country. A Panorama of Monument Valley from the KOA campground. Eagle Mesa - Sitting Hen -  Saddleback Mesa - Bear and Rabbit - Stagecoach - King on his Throne - Sentinel Mesa From the north side of the campground An aside:  You know, all these names that tourists strive so hard to get right (ok, me included) have been made up and have nothing to do with the either the geology or the Dine' culture.  After a while on the tour, I kind of felt bad about the native tour guide nodding his head and sort of smiling as he was giving us all these crazy names.  On ...
