YCGL - Saturday, March 18, 2023 - Laramie - Heee'sss Backkkkkk!

And I'm pretty happy about it.   Really, other than the lack of internet access (some of which I knew wouldn't be there) it was a very successful trip.  Just under 2,000 miles, nothing happened that I couldn't account for, or won't be able to account for, I think.  Certainly nothing major.   ______________ I wrote this on Saturday when I got back, and the side notes say it was published then.  But I don't see it on the blog itself.  Also, Loraine wrote that she was glad I was back, which I thought meant she had read it in the blog, but she had sent me a long text about her family being together and Bob celebrating his 75th birthday when I was about 200 miles away to which I responded back.   And this week has been my Aggregate Workshop and the Cowgirls playing in the WNIT.  And getting back from the trip and sleeping a lot.   So, not a lot to report, but need to catch up a lot. I'll be doing updates for a while.  FYI, tonight (Saturday, March 18th) I'm at Je

YCGL - Thursday-Friday, March 16-17, 2023 - Tse’Bii’Ndzisgaii - Monumenta Vallis - Monument Valley - Final

After looking at all the Roman, Greek, Hindu and Norse Temples and Shrines in the Grand Canyon, a little Navajo, Latin and English for Monument Valley just seemed appropriate. Yesterday, it rained most of the day and drizzled into the night.  I started the morning by just taking some pictures around the KOA campground and it was clear as could be and no evidence of water on the ground.  This is harsh country. A Panorama of Monument Valley from the KOA campground. Eagle Mesa - Sitting Hen -  Saddleback Mesa - Bear and Rabbit - Stagecoach - King on his Throne - Sentinel Mesa From the north side of the campground An aside:  You know, all these names that tourists strive so hard to get right (ok, me included) have been made up and have nothing to do with the either the geology or the Dine' culture.  After a while on the tour, I kind of felt bad about the native tour guide nodding his head and sort of smiling as he was giving us all these crazy names.  On the other hand, no one could p

YCGL - March 1-18, 2023 - We Interrupt This Blog.....To Show You Where I've Been and am Going

This is brilliant... I just figured out that I never sent a map of the trip.  When I made the decision to go, I really didn't have time to spend on it, and it was going to be basically an out-and-back.  I didn't put a lot of thought into the return, which finally ended being a big part of the trip.  And I love maps!  So, here is the overall picture. And here is the southern portion of the loop. Again, you may want to click on the picture to see the details.

YCGL - Tuesday-Wednesday, March 14-15, 2023 - Whoa is Me! - Updated

Image
I'm ON!  With a computer connection!  That works!  For a while.  I sat in the Registration Office at Gouldings Trading Post and Hotel for an hour and a half after we got back from our Monument Valley tour at 7:00 pm while I was downloading pictures from my phone (309) and then going through them to select some that I wanted to post .  Only I did it on my chromebook.  When I got back to the trailer to work on it, I found that I couldn't copy the pictures on the chromebook directly.  It had to go through an internet connection, which the KOA didn't have.    So far, I have been in one campground with working internet  (in Kingman, AZ, where I ended up after leaving Las Vegas after the Men's Conference Title game).  Last night,  "Whoa is me" was written three days ago (I think) after a day of little things that were bugs, but that i could still laugh at.  Most of it things like going back and forth between the truck and the trailer three times because I forgot so

YCGL - Monday, March 13, 2023 - Grand Canyon to Navajo National Monument

Image
I'm sneaking this blog in between two I've already written to maintain the timeline, and tell about the drive from the Grand Canyon to Navajo National Monument..   After the adventure last night riding the electric bike around the Grand Canyon, I slept really well.  REALLY well.  One of the best night's sleep of the trip.  Fear and massive exercise will do that to you.  But the alarm woke me at 9:30 and I didn't have to hook up to leave and I had time before the 11:00 checkout, so I fixed eggs for breakfast.  And fried up some bacon.  And just enjoyed my morning.  I loaded up the bike and got off at 11:10.   I wanted to make several stops on the way to Navajo NM.  The campground there is first come, first serve and I checked that it wasn't full, so I was fine with ambling over there, 143 miles less than 3 hours.   The first stop was to Yavapai Point and the geology museum there, but the turnoff had a sign saying no vehicles over 25 something feet.  No problem, I

YCGL - Sunday, March 12, 2023 - Onward to Home, Kind of, Grand Canyon

I was able to get one night at the Mather Campground at the Grand Canyon for tonight (Sunday).  The site opens at 12:00 and I want to be there as close to that as possible, which was the reason for leaving LV last night (and to just get out of town.  I think I mentioned before, I don't like Las Vegas.)  So, I'm about halfway here in Kingman, and on Route 66 for a while.  Tomorrow, I head off to Navajo National Monument, which is where Betatakin Pueblo is located.  That is the painting we have in the kitchen that Sally and I bought in Santa Fe during my Master's Graduation camping trip with mom and dad in 1978.  (I need to write about that trip also!)  I'm there for two nights, then to Monument Valley for two nights.  I had hoped to get a full day tour of both Monument Valley and Mystery Valley, but no one is doing both yet this year or they require a minimum of two people signing up together.  So I got a 3.5 hour tour of Monument Valley.    Then from there, hustle back
