YCGL - Wednesday, March 8, 2023 - The Women's Final! - Rewrite

OK, it all got confusing even for me, so I'm rewriting these days.  And I'm splitting Wednesday into two parts, to keep things together.  I'm writing about the Women's game tonight and I'll write about the Men's games that took place earlier tomorrow.

First, the Wednesday 7;00 game was the Women’s Championship with #1 UNLV and #2 Cowgirls. The Wyoming fans are fantastic. At 11,800 students, only Air Force is smaller and over half the schools have over 30,000.  For the women’s games, only UNLV had more people in the stands   And that’s good PR for invitations for later games

The Women played really well.  They were behind by 3 at the half. Then each team scored 21 in the third quarter.  But UNLV scored 19-10 in the fourth quarter to win 71-60.

We are so proud of our Cowgirls AND they are an automatic qualifier for the Women’s National Invitational Tournament.

GO POKES!

Updates:  Wyoming played Texas A&M - Corpus Christi in the first round of the WNIT in Laramie.  I was still on the road, but in Fruita with Jere and Tom.  We were able to watch the game and watch UW win by a dominating 75-41.

The game moved to Manhattan, KS and the Kansas State Wildcats.  The Wildcats have not lost at home this year and they paid more to have the tournament moved there.  And it worked for them.  They beat the Cowgirls 71-55.  Sadly, there was a cover on the basket for the Pokes and nothing would drop.  But its been a great season!

(Also in the WNIT from the Mountain West Conference, the CSU Women lost in the First Round and the New Mexico Women won the first and lost in the second.  Finally, San Diego State lost in the first round.)
