YCGL - Thursday, March 9, 2023 - Back to the Men's Games Through Second Round

Maybe You Can't Get Lost, But You Can Get Confused!

That had been my original title, but decided that something a little more accurate would be better.

On Wednesday morning:

#8 CSU beat #9 Fresno 67-65 in a really close and exciting game.  And #6 New Mexico beat the #11 UW Cowboys 87-76.  The Pokes played well for only having 8 players, with 7 players out having entered the Transfer Portal and the 8th announced he was leaving the next day.  With the two graduating seniors, there are only three scholarship players coming back next year (we hope) and the coach has to recruit 10 new players.  It's going to be a heck of a summer and fall in Basketball land in Wyoming.

Thursday:

While CSU won their first round, it meant they played the #1San Diego State in the second round, where they got beat 64-61.  Two games of little consequence, San Jose State beat Nevada-Reno 81-77 in overtime and #2Boise State beat UNLV 87-76.  Finally, #6New Mexico got beat by #3Utah State 91-76.

So, bottom line, by Thursday, all the men's teams I was really interested in were out.  And really from there, all the games were not particularly close, with the final of #1 San Diego beating #3 Utah State 62-57.

Really, probably the best thing that happened on Thursday was dinner.  There was time to eat between the second and third games, so Chip and I decided to go to the Hofbrauhaus.   It is a short walk from the Thomas and Mack, and we had both looked at going there last year and made time for it this year.  It has some glamour for me because Erik has gone to Munich the last several years for Oktoberfest and has partied at the original there.  The PR claims it is an exact replica of the 400 year old original in Munich.  It turns out Chip has eaten at several of them as she has traveled around the country and wanted to eat at this one.  Of course, the first course is beer.

The mugs are the size of Jerry Cans and I told her to time me, that in two hours I would be asleep.  (I didn't actually, but the game got a little slow about half way through.)  With the Oompa band (two guys and a soundtrack) and two huge plates of food that were as heavy as the beer, it was a lot of fun.
